Project sponsor

Description

The project sponsor is responsible for the outcomes of the project and the achievement of the objectives within the set budget and timeframe. The project sponsor is always a single individual from the core organization.

Responsibility

  1. Initiation and controlling of the project
  2. Overall responsibility for the project and objective achievement
  3. Reconciliation of the project objectives with the overarching strategies, specifications and objectives of the core organization
  4. Provision of resources (financial, personnel, infrastructure) and assurance that they are used efficiently
  5. Timely decisions on requests and measures
  6. Appointment of members and leadership of the project committee
  7. Appointment of the project manager
  8. Assurance of sufficient participation by the specialist area

Powers

  1. Decision-making power within the framework of the allocation of powers by the core organization
  2. Allocation of financial and human resources, as well as infrastructure to the project
  3. Escalation to the core organization

Skills

  1. Business understanding and knowledge of the specialist area
  2. Knowledge of the project and operation requirements of the core organization (e.g. for procurement, financing, controlling, security)
  3. Business administration knowledge to ensure the efficient and effective use of financial and human resources
  4. In-depth knowledge of project initiation and project management
  5. Knowledge of HERMES, attested to by course attendance
  6. Communication skills to represent the project internally and externally, manage stakeholders and resolve conflicts
  7. Decisiveness and assertiveness
