Tasks are used to achieve outcomes. A task consists of several activities that are undertaken to produce these outcomes and to meet the quality requirements.

Every task is assigned a role with responsibility to complete the task.

Interrelated tasks are grouped  into modules.

Tasks and their outcomes are listed in the project breakdown structure and allocated to phases and milestones. Tasks which lead to a decision end with a milestone.

Task descriptions are not substitutes for knowledge of the methods and practices to be used, or for the qualifications required.

Explanation of Task Description

Every task has a task description.

All task descriptions have the same structure:

  • Purpose of task
  • Main Idea:  Creates basic understanding of the task
  • HERMES Features: Describes how exactly HERMES supports the task in question
  • Activities: Describes how the task is executed. If possible, the activities are listed in the order in which they need to be executed
  • Relationships (online version only): Shows how a task relates to modules, outcomes, and roles
  • Outcomes (book version only): Shows which outcomes are generated by the task
